REGIONAL WEATHER SUMMARY
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PADUCAH KY
245 PM CDT Mon Aug 12 2013
An early round of potent thunderstorms awoke many residents of the
Quad States this morning to the tune of rumbling thunder, frequent
deadly lightning and torrential downpours of rain. Early morning
temperatures were generally in the lower to mid 70s.
That early morning round of storms gave way to several hours of
partial sunshine as the day wore on, warming temperatures well into
the 80s on the heels of sweltering dewpoints in the 70s. As a
result, relative humidity levels were oppressive.
A cold front will push south through the area tonight from out of
central Illinois and central Missouri. Along and ahead of this cold
front, thunderstorms will be numerous. This second round of
organized thunderstorms will work its way through the region this
evening and tonight. Heavy downpours of rain are possible with any
of these thunderstorms along with deadly lightning. Be mindful of
low lying areas and areas prone to flash flooding should you find
yourself in one of the heavier downpours. Remember...never drive
your vehicle into water covering the road. Turn around...don't
drown.
High pressure will finally settle in Tuesday behind the passage of
this cold front, bringing much awaited drier...much less humid and
unseasonably cooler conditions to the area. In fact, it is not until
the up and coming weekend that rain enters back into the forecast
after tonight.
